Head on collision on FM 519
11-14-03

Rescue 13 was dispatched to this wreck on FM 519 about 1 mile east of HWY 146 at 12:03 AM. Witnesses at HWY 146 and FM 519 stated that the white vehicle had hit another vehicle at that intersection and then proceeded to leave the accident scene. The driver of the white vehicle turned right on FM 519 and about a mile down the road crossed into the oncoming lane and hit the truck head on.
The occupants of the truck stated that they never saw the white vehicle as the driver either had turned off his headlights or had smashed them out in the previous wreck.
Upon arrival on scene it was determined by the crew of Rescue 13 that Ladder 18's crew would be needed for proper manpower. Ladder 18's crew responded in Reserve Unit 1 (pumper) to the scene. The determination was made due to having 2 victims from the truck on the ground and the cars occupant needing to removed by the Jaws of Life. The driver was transported by Life Flight to the UTMB Hospital.

The driver of the white vehicle had multiple open and close fractures to both legs. He was taken by Lifeflight to UTMB.

Upon arrival, the door was open and he was laying on the ground with both legs trapped by the dash.

The two male occupants of this vehicle sustain minor injuries, one with a possible knee injury. Both were taken by ambulance to UTMB.

I used the Jaws of Life to spread the door open enough to get it off of him. Then used the Ram to spread the dash up and away enough to free his legs.

Notice the steering wheel bent, plus the flor shifter was bent over completely.

The door is buckled from the impact.
